The Bhagavad Gita and Self-Education
The Bhagavad Gita (Song of the Lord) is one of the most important, influential, and luminous of the Hindu scriptures. It’s also one of the world’s most significant artistic, philosophical, and religious works. (Gandhi based his daily life on the Gita from his 20s on.) Regardless of our own spiritual, religious, or philosophical beliefs or predilections, they can be greatly enhanced and better understood by study of the Gita. It confirms and strengthens our feeling for truth in spiritual world. Its 700 stanzas distill the finest in India's vast and varied Vedic culture. The Vedas (Gnostic knowledge) are held by Hindus to be based on direct knowledge of God, stemming from an oral tradition that predates Egyptian civilization. In this course, we’ll explore the wisdom of the Gita, recognizing its usefulness to us today and enhancing our spiritual self-knowledge.
